Hello,
I want to ask if you can give me some advice on to win at this tough game. I am a American and I really love Australia racing. Any good advice on books or anything that can help me learn how to punt correctly and win. Please help.
Thanks,
Ron
Can’t say I’ve read too many Australian horse racing books Ron. I’ve read “Beyer On Speed” and have applied similar practices here with some success. But there is no simple answer, and it’s really about finding value by thinking a bit outside the square. A lot of racing here on different shaped tracks, and in both directions.
I like to do some historical research on the better Group 1 races and you will some recent posts on this Blog that have been reasonably successful (Caulfield Cup, Caulfield Guineas and Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes) but find racing at Flemington too much of a challenge at times. Huge fields with too much depth and too many 3yo races over the carnival. Steer away from them unless you like something at a double figure price. Stay tuned for a Melbourne Cup preview in a couple of weeks time. It’s almost exclusively won by a 6yo male horse in the past decade or so. Quite a few good people you can follow on Twitter if you are that way inclined.
